Make a difference in your community – Sign up to work for Census 2021

Posted: 26th May

Are you looking for some extra work in August? Sign up now for Census 2021 - the Australian Bureau of Statistics are looking for enthusiastic people to join their dynamic team.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conducts a Census every five years and the next one will take place on Tuesday 10th August 2021.

The Census collects data confidentially from people in Australia on that date about the population, rent, mortgages, religion, employment, housing and more, which is collated from neighbourhoods and towns to states and the nation.

Census data helps business and not for profit organisations, governments and communities to make important decisions, informing planning for schools, healthcare, transport and infrastructure.

Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry says “A Census worker plays a vital role in ensuring that everyone can access and complete the Census. The Census is so important for those in remote parts of regional Australia where internet and mail services are limited.”

The ABS census is recruiting for 38,000 short-term roles across the nation for a range of field and office-based roles, supporting planning and delivering a successful Census.

Positions are available in towns and regional areas across Central Queensland with flexible working hours across weekdays, weekends and evenings.

Interested persons are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for local positions with contract dates being between 13 July and 1 October 2021. Paid training will be provided and no experience is necessary with ideal candidates knowing their communities.

Field officers play a key role in delivering Census instructions and forms as well as helping to promote Census participation and providing assistance to people who need special support to complete the Census.

Ms Landry says “The Census gives us a better understanding of what resources are required in what areas. The sound operation of Government at any level would be unimaginable without the Census. These jobs are out there if you want them.”
